About the event
This NCSS course will focus on multiple fire making techniques to ensure participants gain the skills to make fire under any conditions with and without modern devices and accelerants. From firepit structures to primitive fire making techniques, this course will equip participants with knowledge and practice that can be applied to casual campfire construction and survival situations.
What you will learn:
- Various fire structures and placement to include Dakota Fire Holes, Rocket Stoves and Long Log Fires
- Maximizing heat from a fire
- Making tinder, kindling and accelerants from natural resources
- Making fire in wet conditions
- Maintaining fire in harsh conditions
- Primitive fire making techniques to include flint & steel and friction fires
- How to make char cloth
- Easy to find, everyday items that can aid in making fire
Lunch and Dinner will be provided.
This course will conclude with a fire making challenge with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
Onsite camping is available to those attending NCSS Advanced Water the following day.
